Power
Decide whether the installation has a suitable fixed supply or needs a battery deployment.
A semi-trailer tracking project starts with the trailer’s power, mounting environment, reporting need and platform path. Build the shortlist around operating conditions, not a model name alone.
Trailers can be parked separately from tractors, moved between depots, or assigned to different vehicles. A useful hardware choice begins with the operating question: do you need periodic location visibility, movement alerts, vehicle power integration, or additional equipment data?
Decide whether the installation has a suitable fixed supply or needs a battery deployment.
Balance a magnetic, fixed, concealed, exposed or serviceable location against maintenance access.
Separate location and movement needs from equipment signals, sensors and platform mapping.
Test installation, payload, location behavior and alert handling on the actual sample.
The correct route depends on the trailer, country, network plan, installation method and receiving platform.
Choose this route when a suitable fixed power source and installation path are confirmed. For an exposed powered comparison, A700 lists IP67, 9–90V input, an internal antenna and a relay. Confirm trailer compatibility, wiring, protection and reporting behavior for the selected model.
Consider this route when wiring is unavailable or the asset is temporary. GT76-CAT1 lists a 6000–20000mAh battery range, magnetic mounting and IP65 protection. Battery duration, reporting interval and the best mounting location require a sample check.
Use this route when the asset workflow needs a particular mounting arrangement, battery strategy, reporting policy or platform mapping. Confirm the exact model, enclosure, network band, certification and alert behavior from supplier evidence before approval.
Confirm the wiring point, voltage, protection, cable routing and installer responsibility before ordering. Coverage depends on the operator, country, antenna placement, environment and service plan. Check it for the intended deployment rather than inferring it from a product category.
Where the requirement includes equipment data, A300 may be relevant because it lists dual CAN, J1939, RS485 and RS232. That does not mean a semi-trailer has those interfaces or that A300 should be installed on it.
A tracker is not automatically a complete fleet platform. Confirm the receiving platform, protocol, message fields, device mapping, retention, alert rules and integration effort with a model-specific document and controlled sample test.
Not necessarily. Power source, separation from the tractor, mounting location and maintenance workflow can differ.
Choose wired hardware when fixed supply and installation are confirmed. Consider battery-powered hardware when wiring is unavailable or the asset is temporary.
Not by itself. Operating duration depends on reporting policy, network conditions, temperature, movement and device behavior.
It may be possible, but protocol, payload and platform compatibility must be checked for the exact model and receiving system.
Confirm the target country, exact model, power, mounting, network bands, supplier documents and sample-test scope.
